The following is a quote from an article in the Harvard Business Review “Marketing Myopia” by Theodore Levitt:
“The railroads did not stop growing because the need for passenger and freight transportation declined. That grew. The railroads are in trouble today, not because that need was filled by others (cars, trucks, airplanes, and even telephones) but because it was not filled by the railroads themselves. They let others take customers away from them because they assumed themselves to be in the railroad business rather than in the transportation business. The reason they defined their industry incorrectly was that they were railroad oriented instead of transportation oriented; they were product-oriented instead of customer-oriented”.
The Marine Industries Association of South Florida looks forward to a continuation of the excellent and close working relationship we’ve enjoyed with you during your tenure at Bahia Mar.
The contributions you’ve made to our organization are frankly too numerous to list, however, I would be remiss in not expressing sincere ppreciation for the time, effort and talent you have expended in our behalf. The marketing strategies and promotional concepts laid out for our organization show a depth of talent, imagination and forward thinking second to none.
I have finally arrived back.in Australia after quite an exhaustive global trip and this is the first opportunity to say thank you for the time you spent with my Singaporean associates and myself, reviewing your spectacular! marina.
To arrive virtually unannounced and for you to spend considerable time with us, and C.”Cpressing quite openly the pros & cons of constructing and operating a major yacht marina was very much appreciated.
We will be introducing many of your suggestions at Sunrise into the Sentosa Cove Marina.
I will keep you informed of our progress and I do hope at some point we will have the opportunity of having you as a guest at the Sentosa Cove Marina.
Through his industry contacts, marketing knowledge and passion for quality, Dick filled the marina quickly upon completion in March 2001. In addition, he provided valuable feedback and assistance with respect to the overall management of the multi-use project, its security, service, maintenance and operational policies.
On behalf of Japanese mission members, I would like to express our sincere appr ciation for the heartfelt hospitality extended to us.
The mission members were all quite happy to have had the opportunity to see your facility. The discussion that took place in the conference room was so impressive and informative. I only regret that tim was so short.
Thank you very much again for your· cooperation in promoting u.s. exports of the marine leisure industry to Japan.
